Here are some of the frequently asked questions. If you have any questions you think should be added to this please add them as a reply.
1. Is the Neopets Assistant safe? No seriously, are you going to steal my account?
The Neopets Assistant is perfectly safe. We cannot and do not have access to your account details. The gadget only uses the information on your computer to display your Neopets to you. It doesn't send it anywhere else. If you click the login button on the gadget it just takes you to the login page on neopets - and if you're not comfortable with that just log in the usual way and the gadget will pick up on it. Always remember to check the address bar when you're logging into Neopets. The Neopets Assistant will never ask you for your Neopets password and nor should anywhere else!
2. How does the Neopets Assistant work?
It works by taking information about your pet and current events from the front page, and handles alerts the same way as the toolbar does. Because of this it can display your current active pet and tell you when you have Neomail, Neofriend requests and any other events on your account without causing random events.
3. But isn't it cheating?
No. You should never use programs to play the game for you or give you an unfair advantage. The Neopets Assistant will NOT help you earn neopoints, cheat at games or anything else that is against the rules.
4. Why bother making it then?
We were getting fed up with the instability of the toolbar, which was designed to work with IE6 and then never updated for later versions. If you run the toolbar you may be familiar with Internet Explorer crashing when you close it and popping up a message box saying "Error 217". This goes away if you disable the toolbar. Tarla's alert was the main reason for many of us to run the toolbar so it seemed like a good idea to create a new alert button that would be compatible. Once we got started we could see that we could do some other fun stuff like displaying the active pet and offering you easy links to things like your inventory or events and it grew from there!
5. I use Firefox and it's not working for me!
Unfortunately the Neopets Assistant is not compatible with Firefox. If you think it should be, post on the suggestion board and if there is enough interest we may be able to work something out. Please be patient though. It takes alot of work to write these things and we'd like to know it's actually something that's needed before we invest a whole lot of time in it.
